The Equine Emergency Surgery and Critical Care service offers a 24-hour a day, year-round service for the examination and admission of critically ill large animal patients, with a special focus on horses.  The service is overseen by specialists with board certification in equine surgery as well as large animal internal medicine, and with advanced training in equine emergency medicine and critical care.  Further, operation of the service is conducted by veterinarians in advanced training residency programs in equine medicine and surgery with assistance by 4th year veterinary students.  The hospital is staffed with certified veterinary technicians assisted by 4th year veterinary students 24-hours a day.

The facility includes adult ICU stalls, mare-foal stalls, foal pens, a neonatal foal table, a separate isolation facility for infectious diseases, individual video monitoring of colic aisle and isolation stalls via the internet, a fully padded neurology stall for management of recumbent horses, sling capabilities, and the latest technology and monitoring equipment.  The Equine Hospital has access to 24-hour clinical pathology and chemistry blood analysis, specialized fluid delivery devices, and ventilator capabilities for neonates.  Board certified specialists in theriogenology (reproduction), anesthesiology and radiology are available on demand, along with a fully staffed surgical team for emergency surgery.
