Critical Care Technicians

I have always loved horses, my parents swear there was a switch at the hospital as they had no horse experience so I truly believe it is something you are born with. I got my first horse at 13 and have had one or more ever since. I worked at a breeding/training stable for 6 years and always had a passion for veterinary medicine. Finally at the age of 32 I went back to school and received an associates degree in vet tech from Colby Community College in 1996. I worked in a mixed animal practice from 1996 until 2001 when I moved to Fort Collins and started working at CSU as a large animal emergency critical care nurse during the night. I eel I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to work at something I love and the chance to be learning something new each day. I treat each horse that comes in a if they are a part of my family and try to make each one as comfortable in their new surroundings as possible. In my spare time I assist my youngest daughter with training our two horses and my older daughter ride herd on my grandson (the horses are easier!). I also workout and enjoy drawing.

Hi, I'm Kris Perry. Born and raised in Honolulu, HI, I came to Colorado to attend CSU, which I graduated from in 2001 with degrees in Animal Science and Ag. Business. While I was going to school I worked for a local equine ambulatory vet. I began working here at the VTH in the summer of 2001 and worked in the Business Office for a year before joining the equine team as a critical care nurse. In addition to taking in and caring for emergencies and other patients already in the barn I maintain the colic aisle, making sure the patients are comfortable and happy. My passions are riding and showing horses, both in AQHA and hunter/jumper competition, studying impressionist art, and accumulating furry friends (the current count is 3 dogs and 3 cats).

Horses have been a part of my life from birth, having shaped much of who I am today. As the family business is quarter horses, I took a very early interest in the veterinary aspects of horse care, paying special attention and taking every opportunity to expand my knowledge. This background afforded me the chance to become a nurse in the equine hospital at UC Davis which I enjoyed for 6 years before I moved to Colorado to receive my BS degree in Equine Science from CSU in 1998. In 2000 I joined the VTH, taking up the familiar reins of caring for patients in the equine barn after hours as part of the emergency team. Interspersed throughout I have had the chance to experience many aspects of the equine world and enjoy every opportunity to explore some new discipline or to learn some new insight. Whether it be playing polo at UC Davis to riding thoroughbred race horses for the track, from breeding manager at a stallion station to managing shire and Arabian farms, I never grow tired of meeting new horses and enjoy all breeds, each individual has something to teach you. In my spare time I enjoy spending with my own horses and maintaining an active role in the family horse business.
