NeurologyCSU’s James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital employs 2 full time board certified neurologists and a full time resident in neurology. Together this team provides neurology consultation for small animal referral patients and in hospital cases. The service evaluates patients with a wide range of complaints including persistent mentation changes, spinal pain, non-orthopedic limb dysfunction, seizures and congenital deafness (especially Dalmations) to name a few. Their special diagnostic tests include detailed neurologic examinations followed by appropriate diagnostic tests that may include EMG (electromyography), evoked response testing (nerve conduction velocity evaluation), BAER for hearing assessment and in conjunction with our radiology department, vertebral radiographs and MRI / CT evaluations. In addition, one of our neurologists is an accomplished neurosurgeon who routinely performs decompressive surgery for intervertebral disc herniation as well as advanced techniques associated with brain and spinal cord tumor resection and spinal stabilization for fracture repair and instability.
