OphthalmologyOphthalmology is a full-time clinical specialty service of the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Our service members are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease in all types of animals, including horses, dogs cats, birds, and exotic species. We are staffed by 2 faculty members who are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, 3 residents in training for board certification, veterinary students, and trained technical personnel. Most examinations and surgeries performed by the ophthalmology service are scheduled by appointment; however we are also available for consultations regarding patients admitted to other specialty services, and for emergencies, as needed. We offer state of the art ocular procedures such as ultrasonic cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) with lens implantation, laser glaucoma therapy, ocular ultrasound, electroretinography, eyelid and corneal reconstructive surgery, and ocular ultrasonic biomicroscopy (used to aid in the diagnosis of glaucoma).
