Small Animal Medicine

The James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital Small Animal Medicine service covers everything from routine vaccinations (Community Practice) to complex, life-threatening illnesses (Internal Medicine Service). Our board-certified Internal Medicine Specialists are on the clinic floor training residents, interns, and veterinary students to diagnose and treat diseases such as diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic renal disease, hepatitis and many others. Each patient’s case is reviewed in detail in daily rounds and the most up-to-date medical information is brought to the table in each and every case. The Internal Medicine Service has the facilities, technology and expertise to perform a vast array of specialized tests, and is considered one of the country’s leaders in diagnostic endoscopy, laparoscopy, and cystoscopy.
When our Internal Medicine Specialists are not directly managing patients in the clinics, they are providing consults and educational seminars to veterinarians nationwide or conducting research to improve the health and welfare of pets. Veterinarians from all 50 states frequently call for consults on particularly difficult cases, or simply refer those cases to CSU for diagnostic and therapeutic insight that is unavailable anywhere else in the country. Our cutting-edge research programs are shedding new light on infectious diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, the immune system and oxidative stress.
But our number one priority remains the pets and their owners. We combine state-of-the-art veterinary medicine with compassionate and caring veterinarians to provide the best healthcare possible for those special family members.
